Operation Welcome Home – Friday, September 11, 2009

There has been a slight change in the arrival time for volunteers on Friday, September 11. Volunteers are now asked to arrive at 4:30 PM. There is also only one flight tomorrow; the earlier flight has been delayed until Saturday.

Please remember to park on level 3 H of the hourly garage and bring your parking ticket in with you for validation. Also, check the OWH hotline (410-630-1555) on Friday morning after 10:00 AM, and again before you depart for BWI. These are not commercial flights and, therefore, not bound by strict timetables. The hotline message will be updated if arrival times change.

Hope to see you Friday evening. Thank you for supporting our troops as they return home from their duties overseas.

Operation Welcome Home & Happy Hour

Calling All Parrot Heads and ‘Keets!

Operation Welcome Home (OWH)

When: Friday, August 14, 2009   Be at BWI at 5:30

Where: International Terminal, BWI        Parking: 3H (free but bring ticket in @ 5:30 for validation)

What: Operation Welcome Home Maryland assembles to greet troops and welcome them back to the United States. Join parrot heads and other patriotic volunteers to show our troops that we appreciate what they do for our freedom. Upon airport arrival volunteers assist in assembling “goodie” bags for the troops. Included in these bags is water, snacks and a welcome home card. Donations of water, snacks, monetary gifts and homemade cards are accepted. Plan to shake the hands of many returning troops, say a quick thank you, and cheer loudly to show them our appreciation. Some of these troops have been in transit (including from war zones) and have been traveling for days. You will only be there for a couple of hours. Help make their return a memorable one. Flags, posters, cameras and banners are allowed. We hope to see many of you at this very worthwhile event, and one you will not soon forget. Please note parking is FREE but you do have to bring your ticket in for validation at volunteer arrival time. Parrot head attire is acceptable and encouraged.

Very Important Note: Due to the nature of these travels, flights can be moved. It is imperative that you call the OWH hotline at least 2 hours before departing for the airport. 410-630-1555. In case this flight is postponed/cancelled we will go directly to happy hour.

Plan to attend happy hour with old and new friends following at the Parkstone Bar & Grill (the old Key West B&G at the Ramada) 7253 Parkway Drive, Hanover  MD 21076  410-712-4300

Thanks For A Very Successful Birthday Bash!

We don’t have a total for number of dog food/cat food or other stuff but I know Doug’s car was completely full. Yesterday the thought came to me that we should have tallied the number of pounds of food. Dahhhhh! Next year. The grand total of money was $490.00 taken in via the Regatta and raffle along with donation at the door. We had $50.00 in new membership.

Last call for RSVPs for our Birthday Bash!

Thank you for those who have already sent in their RSVP!!

We are still in need of volunteers to man check-in. We have 3 slots open. If you would like to help us out sent me an e-mail to Kathy Graves. They are 30 minute slots which require checking names and taking in donations.

Please bring all of your pop tops – this will be the last collection for the summer.
